Seen from the water, the building sits high on a planted bank above a rocky river edge, a long brown mass with a white roof. Behind it, the plan turns inward. Steep stone gables line a paved court planted with rows of young trees, and a round arched gate of river rock marks the way in.

Rough stone carries the lower walls, with dark wood above and iron balconies with looping rails at the windows. The rock is laid in big, rounded courses that read clearly up close.

The rooms are the opposite of the walls. White boards cover walls and ceilings, tall volumes take a ladder up to a loft, and a small bed nook tucks under the slope of the roof.
