Pale walls, shaped gables and a stone base give this house a distinct outline in a Colorado town. It is a group of volumes, not one box. A tower with a lantern top, a low hipped entry wing and tall gabled ends step around a stair that climbs from the street.

Up close, the detail is heavy and direct. Arched doors and windows are set deep in the wall, dark green bays project from the wall, wood corbels rest on river rock, and chimneys end in clay pots.

Inside, a rough stone fireplace rises to dark timber trusses. The two elevations at the end show how the outline was drawn before it was built.
