Production Builder Review

When a new production builder came into Monteith Park, an existing neighborhood, there was real concern that the design quality would not match the homes next door. Working for the Neighborhood Design Review Board, the studio marked up and commented on the proposed houses, measuring them against traditional principles and details.

Along with the red-lined comments, the studio drew alternate elevations that put those principles to work, which made clear how much they change the look of a house. The final sheet uses photographs of details to make the same points.

A number of the recommendations would save the builder money, and others simply rearrange existing elements at no added cost. Good design and traditional detailing do not have to cost more.
